AdvanceMAME is a unofficial version of MAME with advanced video support. It is indeed a very good project, more info available on advancemame.sourceforge.net. In this text file there's a complete list of options and supports enabled in this build.

DOSBox emulates an Intel x86 PC, complete with sound, graphics, mouse, modem, etc., necessary for running many old DOS games that simply cannot be run on modern PCs and operating systems. In theory, any DOS application should run in DOSBox, but the emphasis has been on getting DOS games to run smoothly, which means that communication, networking and printer support are still in early development. Among its dependencies there is sdl_sound, available in libraries section.

FIGlet is a program for making large letters in ascii-art out of ordinary text. The package includes many styles, there are also many others available on www.figlet.org.


Freeciv is a free and open source empire-building strategy game inspired by the history of human civilization. Packages include both client and server, more informations about the game are available on www.freeciv.org. The first package includes the GTK+2 client, the second includes the SDL client. Please note that the packages are not parallel installable, choose one or the other.

OpenTTD is a clone of the Microprose game "Transport Tycoon Deluxe", a popular game originally written by Chris Sawyer. It attempts to mimic the original game as closely as possible while extending it with new features. OpenTTD is licensed under the GNU General Public License version 2.0. To play OpenTTD, some files from either the MS Windows or DOS version of Transport Tycoon Deluxe are required. Visit the OpenTTD website for more info.

Phalanx is a chess playing engine. It does not have its own graphical interface, but it supports the XBoard interface protocol.

Quaqut is a command-line program which allows to query Unreal Tournament 2004 (TM) game servers and retrieve information like those available while browsing servers in the game: server info, game type, current map, online players, scores, and much more. It can be really useful to generate dynamic pages with live stats, or simply handy if you want to know what's up on a game server without having to launch the game. More information on quaqut.sf.net.

The Battle for Wesnoth is a turn-based strategy game with a fantasy theme. Visit wesnoth.org for more information about this very nice open-source game. It requires SDL libraries only, Boost libraries have been statically linked.
